On a weekday the Sonesta Select guest is a business traveler who needs a desk, fast charging and a decent night of sleep. By Friday the same room belongs to a couple on a weekend trip or a family in town for a tournament. Stays are short, turnover is constant, and the lobby is busy from the first coffee to the last drink at the bar.
Furniture for this brand has to serve both guests without fuss and survive a new arrival almost every night. Coral Hotel Furniture supplies Sonesta Select furniture for guest rooms and public areas, including headboards, beds, casegoods, seating, vanities and lobby pieces. We have supplied hotel and hospitality furniture in the USA since 2012, and every order is built to the approved brand specification the owner gives us.
A select service room is a working room. It has to offer a proper bed wall, a desk a laptop user can sit at for hours, storage for a short stay and a bathroom vanity, all inside a compact floor plan. Nothing in it is decorative only.
Short stays create a specific kind of wear. Luggage rolls in and out daily, housekeeping turns the room fast, and desk chairs get pulled across the floor by a different person each night. Corners, edges and chair bases take the damage long before tops and fronts do.
Sonesta outlines the brand on its own Sonesta Select page. Your franchise documents hold the furniture scheme itself, and Coral works from the version you send.
The bed wall sets the look of the room. A king upholstered headboard with nightstands on either side is the usual arrangement in king rooms, with a double queen version for family rooms. Bed bases should close off the space under the mattress so nothing gets lost and nothing needs vacuuming.
How the bed sits on the wall decides where everything else can go. Our article on how bed frame design affects room layout is worth a read before you settle the room layout.
Business travelers judge the room by the desk. A standard desk with a clear knee space and an ergonomic desk chair covers the need. A media panel behind the television hides wiring and protects the wall.
Short stay guests want somewhere to open a suitcase and somewhere to hang a jacket. An open closet unit with a luggage bench does both and is quicker for housekeeping to check than a closed wardrobe. Add a dresser or credenza if your specification calls for drawer storage or a refrigerator cabinet.
Vanities come as a base with a top and a mirror above. Because the bathroom is the wettest part of the room, the base construction matters more than the look of the top.
| Area | Furniture items | What to look for |
|---|---|---|
| Bed wall | Headboard, bed base, nightstands | Cleanable upholstery, power and USB at the nightstand, wall cleat mounting |
| Work area | Desk, task chair, media panel | Durable top, quality casters, cable routes hidden behind the panel |
| Storage | Closet unit, luggage bench, dresser or credenza | Reinforced bench top, scuff resistant edges, smooth drawer action |
| Soft seating | Lounge chair, side table | Commercial fabric, solid frame, legs that will not snag a vacuum |
| Bathroom | Vanity, mirror | Sealed edges, moisture resistant base, accessible version where needed |
| Lobby and bar | Reception desk, lounge seating, bar counter, stools, communal table | Stain resistant surfaces, footrails on stools, finishes matched to guest rooms |
| Dining | Tables, chairs, banquettes | Wipe clean tops, stackable or easily moved chairs |
The lobby does real work at a Sonesta Select. It serves food and drink, so it acts as a cafe in the morning, a place to take a call at midday and a bar in the evening. The furniture has to shift between those uses without being rearranged.
That usually means a mix of seating heights and group sizes:
Coral supplies all of these. Browse the range on our lobby and breakfast furniture collection page. If you want to discuss a lobby plan before requesting pricing, get in touch with us.
In a select service hotel, the test of furniture is how it looks after years of nightly check ins, not how it looks on day one.
Laminates and veneers. Laminate on tops and fronts handles luggage scuffs, spilled coffee and cleaning sprays. Veneer, where the scheme uses it, belongs on surfaces guests see but rarely touch, such as headboard surrounds.
Edge banding. Edges fail first in a room that turns nightly. Ask for thick banding, color matched and applied to every exposed edge.
Hardware. Drawer runners, hinges and chair casters should be commercial grade.
Upholstery. Headboards, lounge chairs and lobby seating need fabrics or vinyls that clean easily. Upholstered furniture is commonly specified to California’s TB 117-2013 flammability standard, published by the Bureau of Household Goods and Services. Check what your specification and local code require.
Wet areas. Vanity bases and any bar or beverage counters need moisture resistant board with sealed edges and cutouts.
Sonesta Select projects are very often renovations of hotels that keep operating. Planning the furniture around the construction schedule protects your room revenue.

Accessible rooms use adapted versions of the standard furniture. Coral supplies ADA platform beds, ADA headboards and an accessible vanity, and builds desks and closet units in custom sizes for accessible rooms.
The reference document is the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Your architect decides how it applies to each room type. We then build the accessible pieces to match, in the same finishes as your standard rooms.
